What can you do at OBA

The Dutch Place (‘Het NL Plein’)
This is the learning space in the library where you can find everything to improve your Dutch. There are books. There are Oefen-PC’s (practice computers) with different programs to practise your Dutch. Come to the Oefenspreekuur (practice sessions) if you have any questions about the computers or the books. At the NL Plein there is always somebody to help you. More information.

Reading and Book Loans
OBA has books, newspapers and magazines in Dutch and many other languages. At OBA you can also read these on a computer or on your smartphone. At the NL Plein you can find books to practise the Dutch language. You need an OBA card if you want to borrow books to take home with you. Do you want to join Amsterdam Public Library (OBA)? Practise and Learn
On the Oefen-PC’s there are programs to practise the Dutch language, maths and how to work with the computer. You can also use these computers to practise for the inburgeringsexamen (citizenship test) and the Staatsexamen NT2 (Dutch as a second language exam). You can also come and practise your Dutch with a volunteer. More information.

Reading and Talking
The Meeleesclub (book group) is for people who enjoy reading and talking about  books in Dutch together. At the end of the sessions you can get some extra practice on the Oefen-PC. More information.

Every week there are Voorleesuurtjes (Storytime) for children and their parents. Together with your child you can listen to a story.

Let’s get digital (‘Digisterker’)
At OBA you can learn how to work with the computer. The course Digisterker is a course that teaches you how to use government websites for tax returns and benefits. Your first step is to set up a personal ‘DigiD’ – we will help you with that too. More information.

The Second Home Club (‘Club Tweede Vaderland’)
Listen to stories and meet people from all over the world at Club Tweede Vaderland (The Second Home Club). These meetings take place on a regular basis at the Central OBA. More information.
